🏁On August 1, 1982 Darrell Waltrip beats Buddy Baker to the finish line by less than a car length to win the Talladega 500 and sweep both races at Talladega. Waltrip led 107 of the 188 laps at the Alabama International Motor Speedway. He became just the third driver to sweep both Talladega races in the same season, joining Pete Hamilton (1970) and Baker (1975). Dale Earnhardt later does it twice (1990 and 1999).
