Sumter School District currently has 134 trained mentors who work with teachers, and 85 of them this year are working with new teachers. Mentors meet with their mentee twice a month to talk about any issues the teacher may have and provide support during a critical year on the job. Today, April 23, Millwood Elementary School students took a mini tour of the City of Sumter’s City Hall and Council Chambers! During their visit, they learned about the city’s rich history both past and present and even participated in a fun true or false game to test their knowledge. A special highlight of the day was a visit from Mayor David Merchant, who stopped by to share some encouraging words and advice with the students.
