The Gurkha Contingent (GC) is a line department of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) consisting primarily of Gurkhas from Nepal, who are meticulously recruited by the British Army under the purview of the Government of Singapore.

As a world-class security unit, tough, vigilant, and steadfast, fully trained and manned, and employing the traditional Gurkha to the best of his natural abilities, the GC is to achieve operational success across the spectrum of para-military operations to help safeguard Singapore.

In the 50s and 60s, as Singapore came closer to independence, the Gurkhas played a key role in quelling riots — especially those that involved Chinese and Malayan forces. They were valued as an impartial force in light of multi-ethnic tensions. Impartiality is one of their unique attributes.

Reputed for their fearless military prowess and loyalty, the Gurkhas in Southeast Asia were initially brought to Singapore as special soldiers on the payroll of the British Army. Today, the Gurkha Contingent is a unit in the Singapore Police Force and serves as a neutral safekeeping and counter-terrorism force.

Mount Vernon Camp, also known as the Gurkha Cantonment, is an establishment of the Singapore Police Force built to house the training and residential facilities of the Gurkha Contingent's Gurkhas and their families.
