Garfield Park Natural Area - Chicago Park District
The Garfield Park Natural Area contains about 22 acres of prairie, savanna, woodland, wetland, and aquatic habitat. The lagoon surrounds the Garfield "Gold Dome" Fieldhouse, on both sides of Central Park Avenue between Washington Boulevard and Lake Street.
Created from a design by William Le Baron Jenney in 1871, later improved by Jens Jensen, the lagoon meanders around a large area in Jensen’s distinctive prairie river style. There are two pools of water, one on each side of Central Park avenue.

Jensen also created formal garden between the bandstand and the lagoon, which included pergolas, specially designed benches, a water court, and a sculpture of Scottish poet Robert Burns.
