Parents enrolling children in Oklahoma public schools will be required to provide proof of their child’s U.S. citizenship or legal immigration status under a proposal rule approved by the State Board of Education.

The rule would not block undocumented students from enrolling, but it would supply the Trump administration with information to aid immigration enforcement.

The Oklahoma Board of Education approved a measure requiring parents to provide their child’s immigration status when enrolling them in school. The measure passed Tuesday in a 6-0 vote after a brief 20-minute discussion.
