Cameron Lamb's family still wonders why he was taken from them, and whether convicted officer Eric DeValkenaere will be released from prison early.

The Kansas City, Missouri, police detective who shot and killed Cameron Lamb on Dec. 3, 2019, Eric DeValkenaere, took the stand in his own defense Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court.

The Kansas City Police Department released more than 500 pages of documents related to the fatal police shooting of Cameron Lamb including witness accounts, crime lab reports and photos.

Cameron Lamb was shot on Dec. 3, 2019, by former KCPD detective Eric DeValkenaere. During trial, the defense argued DeValkenaere had reasonable suspicion and duty to pursue Lamb for speeding.

DeValkenaere shot and killed Cameron Lamb within seconds of breaking through a fence into his backyard. He then blocked EMTs from assisting Lamb for 14 minutes while he died.

DeValkenaere was convicted in 2021 for the involuntary manslaughter of 26-year-old Cameron Lamb, a Black man whose fatal shooting has sparked ongoing debates about police conduct and accountability.
