The annual MLB trade deadline not only impacts the final two months of the current season, but it also has a longer-lasting impact in the form of the prospect talent that is sent the other way by contenders.
The Yankees are acquiring third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies, according to multiple reports. Third base was one of the Yankees' biggest needs, and McMahon will provide lefty power (though with a lot of strikeouts) and a contract that takes him through the 2027 season.
In exchange for McMahon, the Rockies added a couple starting pitchers to their farm. Herring, a left-hander, was the Yankees’ No. 8 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, while the right-handed Grosz was ranked No. 21.
“Spencer Jones has back spasms and won’t start for AAA Scranton tonight,” posted Curry on the social media platform. “His absence from the lineup has nothing to do with a potential trade.”
The top Yankees prospect clubbed three home runs in the first five innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre in Thursday’s clash against the Rochester Red Wings, turning heads from across the baseball world with the MLB trade deadline nearing.
