Facing a looming budget deficit, the county council has had to scale down what was initially a more robust aid package for residents who’ve lost their federal jobs.

Officials in Prince George’s County moved forward Tuesday with plans to help laid-off federal workers get back on their feet.

As thousands more fear that their federal jobs are on the chopping block, Prince George’s County leaders say they know this help is needed.

The federal government shutdown will have a huge impact on Maryland, which has already been hit hard with federal job losses.

The council passed the resolution on Tuesday, which is a scaled down version of the aid package introduced earlier this year.
