The Associated Press has called the Alabama District 2 Congressional election for Shomari Figures (D). Caroleene Dobson (R) took the stage and gave a speech late Tuesday night at her party at Fort Whiting in Mobile.

Democratic nominee Shomari Figures won election Tuesday in Alabama’s newly drawn 2nd Congressional District in a race that could help shape the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Associated Press called the race at 10:55 p.

As of 10:25 pm, with sixty of Alabama’s sixty seven counties reporting their vote tallies, NBC News is projecting that Democrat Shomari Figures has won the State’s newly redrawn Congressional District two.

Alabama voters are deciding who will represent a congressional district redrawn after a lengthy redistricting battle.

Alabama has elected Democrat Shomari Figures to represent Alabama's redrawn 2nd Congressional District, making him the first Black American elected to the seat, according to incomplete, unofficial results. With about 96% of the votes in, Figures had 156,622 votes compared to 130,568 for his Republican opponent, Caroleene Dobson.

With the victory by Shomari Figures, Alabama will most likely have two Black representatives in Congress at the same time for the first time in its history.
