Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is gearing up to launch its robotaxi service in Californias Bay Area, but with safety drivers on board due to regulatory constraints, according to Business Insider and Reuters reports.
This suit has been brewing for some time. The state DMV started investigating Tesla for possible misleading advertising in 2021 and then sent an official inquiry to the automaker roughly a year later.
On an event page for a "Tesla Diner SoCal Protest," the organizer, Tesla Takedown, points to Musk's handling of X, saying it boosts conspiracy theories and extremist views. The page also calls out Tesla's Full Self-Driving feature as "fraud."
Tesla has also yet to prove that its Full Self-Driving software can be used to power a robotaxi network. While the company has been running an invite-only version of its robotaxi service in Austin since June 22, it’s been a far cry from what Musk has spent years teasing.
