TSN's Pierre LeBrun and Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported Wednesday that the Flyers are "zeroing in" and "closing in" on hiring Tocchet as their next head coach, although it isn't yet official. The Flyers fired former head coach John Tortorella on March 27 with only nine games left in the regular season.

Tocchet is returning to Philadelphia to try and usher this phase of the Flyers' rebuild toward the playoffs and, eventually, Cup contention.

Tocchet, 61, will succeed interim boss Brad Shaw, who replaced the fired John Tortorella on March 27. He coached the Vancouver Canucks for the past 2.5 seasons.
