BEREA, Ohio — Browns fans will get to see the great Dillon Gabriel vs. Shedeur Sanders debate play out on the field on Saturday afternoon against the Rams.

Shedeur Sanders arrived at Cleveland Browns training camp determined to compete and instead watched as veteran quarterback Joe Flacco formally secured the starting job for Week 1.

If the 40-year-old Flacco still has some magic left in his right arm, Cleveland will ride it as far as it can this season.

The Cleveland Browns have announced that Joe Flacco will be their starting quarterback for the Sept. 7 opener against AFC North rival Cincinnati.

Flacco served as the team’s QB late in the 2023 season to lead Cleveland to its second postseason appearance under head coach Kevin Stefanski and that familiarity likely helped the 40-year-old signal-caller secure the job. In his Tuesday press conference, Stefanski said Flacco has done really well in the offseason program and training camp.
