After the new head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) warned staffers not to get in his way, the federal agency cut training for emergency managers, according to reports. Both moves come less than a month before the start of hurricane season.

The new head of the federal agency tasked with responding to disasters across the country warned staff in a meeting Friday not to try to impede upcoming changes, saying that “I will run right over you” while also suggesting policy changes that would push more responsibilities to the states.

Cameron Hamilton, who had been acting administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, was fired Thursday, a day after telling Congress the agency should not be disbanded, putting him at odds with President Donald Trump's suggestions that FEMA be downsized or dissolved.
