A Howard County Police Department officer was involved in a shooting after a man allegedly repeatedly stabbed a family member.

The suspect in the July fatal shooting at The Mall in Columbia is back in Howard County after agreeing to be transferred back to Maryland without a formal extradition hearing, according to the Howard County Police Department.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Yaqin Jackson, Jahquez Mack and Jaylyn Smith are each charged in a May 31 shooting at the Redpoint Columbia Apartments, an off-campus complex that houses many University of South Carolina students.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The coroner has identified the person killed after a weekend shooting in Richland County as a teenager. Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford said 17-year-old Jayson Cooke died after the incident on Percival Road on Sunday.
