The deal gives Banijay Asia exclusive rights to BBC Studios’ unscripted and scripted format catalog in India. The agreement takes effect after BBC Studios completes its current production commitments in the region.

BBC Studios has confirmed it will cease producing in India, with Banijay Asia gaining access to its formats catalog in the country. The BBC’s production and sales arm has been mulling an exit from Indian production for several weeks and today confirmed it will “cease its own production activity locally,

Despite exiting on the production front, BBCS remains involved on the channels side with its own networks on linear and digital, as well as the BBC Earth joint venture with Sony Pictures Networks India. It also operates BBC Player and BBC Kids via Prime Video in the country.

The new partnership will see BBC Studios cease its own production activity locally, once current and contracted commitments are delivered, to focus on this new model in India

Based in Mumbai, Banijay Asia will have exclusive access to BBC Studios’ format catalogue for local production.
