Alien: Earth viewership surged with a strong debut, highlighting the series’ impact within the franchise. The premiere episode attracted millions of viewers across multiple platforms in under a week.
The series by creator Noah Hawley is described as a spin-off to the original Ridley Scott-directed film, " Alien ," from 1979. The film follows a space crew aboard the starship, Nostromo, who are on their journey back home when they receive a distress call from an alien vessel.
Episode 3 of Alien: Earth, titled “Metamorphosis,” truly lives up to its title by centering on transfirnation. Just like how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, this episode focused on both physical and emotional transformations of several characters.
"Earth" smacks you in the face with all things "Alien" from its very first moments, describing a capitalist world controlled by corporations instead of governments, and bringing us to a deep space research vessel with sleep pods and a congenial crew. Nothing could possibly go wrong with all the vicious alien specimens on board, right?
That being said, as a Star Trek fan, its success is making my heart hurt. Don't get me wrong, I love what my beloved franchise is doing so far, and I eagerly await upcoming Trek projects in the future, but damn would it have been nice had executives been able to bring Alien: Earth 's creator into the fold when there was a chance.
