Two teens are expected to survive after being shot on Kimbark Avenue in Kalamazoo early Saturday morning. The location is just west of the Western Michigan University campus. Police say a 17 and 18-year-old suffered gunshot wounds just before 1 a.

Western Michigan University President Edward Montgomery plans to retire next year, ending an eight-year run in Kalamazoo and a 40-year career in higher education. Montgomery announced his retirement today in a letter emailed to the “campus community.” He wrote that he turns 70 years old next year.

Three Western Michigan University labor unions representing faculty and other instructional staff have voted no confidence in WMU President Edward Montgomery.

The last vote of no confidence in WMU President Edward Montgomery came at the end of 2021 from the faculty union. Friday's action included all three academic labor unions.

Citing a grave concern over “a consistent pattern of damaging errors of judgment and poor leadership,” the Faculty Senate at Brandeis University has voted “no confidence” in the leadership of President Ronald Liebowitz.

The move comes as the professor's union is threatening to strike amid tense pay negotiations with the university.
