Severe thunderstorms and torrential rain have again battered coastal Spain, causing thousands of people to be evacuated just two weeks after the country experienced deadly flooding in Valencia and other nearby communities.

National weather office AEMET has issued its highest possible alerts the Spanish provinces of Tarragona, Malaga and Valencia. Two weeks ago flash floods in Valencia and other parts of Spain killed more than 200 people.

On the east coast, Valencia remains subject to a yellow alert, in force until midnight, with up to 60mm of rain forecast in the space of 12 hours. Dozens of emergency callouts were reported overnight, mostly in areas worst-hit by the previous floods, which killed more than 200 people.

Spain's national weather agency put parts of the eastern Valencia region under the highest alert level for rain on Wednesday, two weeks after floods killed more than 200 people there.

The weather situation in Spain is becoming increasingly challenging. A tornado was observed in Marbella, located in the southern part of the country, and other cities are experiencing floods. The government agency has issued alerts to residents.
