Fall foliage can change instantly in Vermont, which is why knowing when and where peak season will occur is key to a great leaf-peeping season.

By the week of Sept. 23, Vermont's foliage will be partial as areas in the state's northern part start to near their peak.

However, while New York City may not notice a change, I Love NY, the state’s tourism website, issued its second New York Fall Foliage Report, which indicates that most of the state is experiencing a turn toward the customary colors associated with the season.

Some parts of the Adirondacks are approaching the midpoint seasonal leaf transition this week, with other locations just beginning to see the color change. As usual, the area leads the way for color transition in the Empire State.
