Volkswagen announced it will temporarily suspend production of the ID.4 at its Chattanooga plant following a nationwide recall that affects Chattanooga workers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Admission announced a recall for a Volkswagen car defect in which the doors could open while driving.

The national recall by Volkswagen on Tuesday is going to affect some jobs here in Chattanooga. The company announced that they are furloughing around 200 workers beginning next week as they temporarily halt production of the id.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday that Volkswagen would recall 98,806 electric SUVs to fix their door handles as they do not offer enough protection against water ingress.

Volkswagen is recalling nearly 100,000 ID.4 electric crossover SUVs because the door could open unexpectedly while driving.

I was driving my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 when, seemingly out of nowhere, my driver-side door made several unusual clicking noises and then popped open. “That’s not good,” I thought, as I quickly shut the door while also attempting to keep my hands on the wheel.

Volkswagen issued a recall for 98,806 ID.4 electric crossovers due to a door handle water ingress problem. As of September 18, however, the issue has escalated, with VW issuing a stop-sale order and a production halt of the EV SUV.
