Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickelton slammed centuries as they took South Africa to a strong position at the end of the Day of the 2nd Test against Pakistan in Cape Town. The two players have shattered an 87-year-old record at Newlands with their 325-run partnership in the first innings.

Ryan Rickelton, promoted to open the batting in Tony de Zorzi's injury-enforced absence, and Temba Bavuma, enjoying the form of his career, both scored hundreds on a perfect batting day at Newlands. The pair shared a 235-run stand, the highest fourth-wicket partnership by a South African pair against Pakistan and at Newlands.

Ryan Rickelton (176 not out) and Temba Bavuma (106) led South Africa to 316 for four on the first day of the second Test against Pakistan. Their 235-run partnership countered early setbacks and dominated a lacklustre Pakistan bowling attack.

Contrary to the first game of the series, South Africa opted to bat first. With Tony de Zorzi out with a thigh strain, Ryan Rickelton was pushed up the order. An inside edge saved Aiden Markram from going back to the shed the very first delivery of the game.

South Africa's strong Day 1 performance put them in the driver's seat, with Rickelton and Bavuma's brilliant centuries setting the tone. Pakistan will need quick breakthroughs tomorrow to prevent further damage and stay in the contest.
