In a surprising development, Nintendo announces that it is delaying the release date of the highly anticipated Switch 2 console in one major country.

The successor to Nintendo's popular Switch will drop this summer, promising easier ways to connect, share and play with friends. Here's what to know.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially available for pre-order from 8th April 2025. However, some UK retailers are already offering a very limited number of models available for pre-order, including Very, Amazon, Argos, HMV and Smyths. This is all before being officially released on 5th June.

However, Bloomberg reports that Nintendo assembles roughly a third of Switch 2 units in Vietnam, now only facing a 10% tariff, not the 46% it would have had if the pause had not happened.

On April 4, per The New York Times, Nintendo decided to delay pre-orders for the Switch in light of the tariffs. Although the company acknowledged that prices may increase from $450, it remains uncertain how the administration's recent pause on tariffs will affect the price of the Switch 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is functionally similar to its predecessor. Sure, the detachable controllers can now each be used as a mouse (on your pants, no less), the screen is bigger, the hardware is more powerful and there's a built-in mic for voice chat.
