Authorities have taken a man into custody and charged him in the targeted shootings of Minnesota lawmakers Rep. Melissa Hortman and Sen. John Hoffman. Hortman and her husband were fatally shot at their home in Brooklyn Park early Saturday morning,

Vance Luther Boelter, 57, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a Minnesota Democratic state lawmaker and her husband while posing as a police officer, Governor Tim Walz said.

Walz said Hoffman and his wife were out of surgery and officials expected them to survive.

At a Saturday morning press conference, Walz called the deaths of Hortman and her husband "a political assassination," and has ordered flags to fly at half staff in their honor.

Law enforcement identified him as the suspect who fatally shot Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, and injured Sen. John Hoffman and his wife.
