We've got some accumulating snow to kick things off. That will be followed by the coldest airmass of the winter season thus far. Finally, in the longer range, it appears that an active/stormy pattern is going to unfold over the next few weeks across the eastern United States.

Friday will be a partly to a mostly sunny day with a light breeze from the southwest with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. Friday evening will be dry, with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. Overnight temperatures will be in the teens and low 20s.

Mensch said if the storm hits Massachusetts, it could bring some snow showers throughout the day on Saturday. If the winter storm hits Massachusetts this weekend, it could bring up to three inches of snow, according to Caitlyn Mensch, a NWS meteorologist. "A lot of the times of storms like these can vary," Mensch said.

A NWS forecaster said Massachusetts will see at most two inches of snowfall from the storm this weekend. Most parts of the state, including Worcester, Boston and the South Shore, are expected to get less than an inch of snow.

A fast-moving system will bring plowable snow to parts of Massachusetts Sunday evening into Monday morning. After a mild start to the weekend with temperatures in the 40s on Saturday, the temperatures will drop enough for snow Sunday night followed by the coldest air of the season.
