The Constitutional Court, an arbiter in a polarized nation, is about to consider whether Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment for declaring martial law was justified.

Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol remained defiantly inside his residence resisting arrest for a third day on Thursday, after vowing to "fight" authorities seeking to question him over his failed martial law bid.

The Constitutional Court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) is planning a new attempt to take Yoon into custody over a separate case relating to his failed attempt to impose martial law in early December.

South Korea 's impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol will receive a salary hike despite the ongoing investigation for placing his country under martial law last year. Mr Yoon's salary for 2025 will increase by 3 per cent to 262.6m won (£147,000) from 254.9m won (£142,599) last year, the government said.
