A medical issue with one astronaut prompted NASA to evacuate four Crew-11 members from the International Space Station for the first time.
Astronauts on the International Space Station were not only treated to a sight from Earth's atmosphere recently but also caught a glimpse of one of the Milky Way's nearest galactic neighbors.
The astronauts, Mike Fincke and Zena Cardman, Japan's Kimiya Yui and cosmonaut Oleg Platonov, arrived on the ISS on 1 August expecting to complete a standard six and a half month stay. They were due to come home in mid-February.
The International Space Station (ISS) is a closed ecosystem, and the biology inside it — including its microbial residents — don't necessarily behave the same way on our home planet.
