ATLANTA – A significant winter storm left a swath of snow and freezing rain marched across the South and East to end the week, snarling travel and canceling schools across parts of 25 states.

A late-season storm could bring several inches of snow to New Mexico and surrounding states this weekend, the NWS says.

Winter weather alerts were prompted in some 14 states on Monday as meteorologists warned of heavy snowfall and winds gusting up to 100 miles per hour in some areas.
