The Toronto Blue Jays hope to reach a long-term contract with star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. before he reports to spring training, his deadline to reach a deal.

Pitchers and catchers reported to camp for the Blue Jays on Thursday but Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s self-imposed contract deadline is hovering over everything the team does.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported during a Feb. 5 Bleacher Report stream that contract negotiations between Guerrero and the Blue Jays are starting around $400 million. Speaking with reporters about the extension talks with Guerrero, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins had a clear message on Thursday.
