When comet C/2024 S1 (ATLAS) was first discovered in late September, it was almost immediately identified as a member of the Kreutz family of Sun-grazing comets.

There's been talk of another spectacular comet putting on a show in our sky after Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. Unfortunately, however, it doesn't look like the newcomer will deliver.

A newly discovered comet is racing toward a mid-December rendezvous with the sun — a rendezvous that it will likely not survive. IE 11 is not supported.
