The failure of Tuesday's weed and abortion ballot initiatives despite majority support has once again raised the question: What the heck, Florida? The short answer: In 2006, Florida voters passed a constitutional amendment to raise the threshold to pass constitutional amendments from 50% to 60%.

Florida is one of four states that requires a supermajority of 60% to make changes to its constitution. Ironically, approved the change in 2006 by 57%.
