In that incident, Amtrak reported that the fatal striking as the result of a "trespasser incident." The MBTA and Providence police have yet to say who Thursday's victim is and why they were on the tracks.

PROVIDENCE -- A person was struck by an MBTA train and killed early Thursday morning, according to Providence police. The death happened near Dike Street in the Olneyville neighborhood, said Providence police Detective Maj. David Lapatin. An investigation, led by investigators from Amtrak continues, Lapatin said.
