Officials expect high winds to kick up again early on Wednesday - as a 25th death is confirmed in the US disaster.
The death toll from the Los Angeles wildfires rose to 27 on Thursday, while at least 36 people remain missing, city and county authorities said.
Containment of the blazes, which have killed 24 people, improved over the weekend but resurgent winds could thwart progress.
At the time of this writing, 25 people have died from the massive blazes.
