King Charles III used his annual Christmas message Wednesday to hail the selflessness of those who have cared for him and the Princess of Wales this year, after both were diagnosed with cancer. The 76-year-old monarch said he and his family are “continually” impressed by those who dedicate their lives to helping others.

King Charles III spoke about the “uncertainties and anxieties of illness” as he delivered his annual holiday message from a former hospital chapel, a poignant location given the king’s ongoing cancer treatment.

King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer this year after treating an enlarged prostate. His daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, completed chemotherapy in September.

King Charles III has used his Christmas message to hail the efforts of healthcare workers and all those who support others, before praising the medical staff who provided “strength, care and comfort” during his and the Princess of Wales’ cancer treatments.

The British monarch recorded his annual holiday address from the chapel of a former hospital, rather than from a palace.

As 2024 comes to a close, King Charles III reflected on the past year, which included health struggles for him and his daughter-in-law Princess Kate Middleton. During his annual Christmas address, which he delivered on Wednesday at Fitzrovia Chapel,

As Charles put it, “I am deeply grateful, too, to all those who have offered us their own kind words of sympathy and encouragement.”
