Pope Leo XIV has urged for "responsibility and discernment" over the use of artificial intelligence (A.I.) during his first press briefing with the media since being elected as the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

While heartened by the new pope's commitment to social justice, advocates say it's unclear whether Leo will continue Francis' LGBTQ+ outreach.

Experts see the new pontiff as less confrontational than his predecessor, but willing to stand up for the church's teachings.

Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, said he expects Pope Leo XIV "feels an obligation," to speak to what he called the issues of the day, amid "real challenges globally."

Prior to his elevation to the papacy, Leo XIV stayed out of the spotlight on certain reforms backed by his predecessor but maintained a close relationship with Pope Francis.
