The Pittsburgh irates just had a wild ride, thanks to a back-to-back set against the Cardinals and the Mariners.

Randy Arozarena homered and George Kirby outdueled Paul Skenes as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

This makes it back-to-back shutout losses to the Mariners, as they dropped a 6-0 contest in the series opener on July 4. It also makes it four straight road series that they Pirates have lost.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed starting pitcher Paul Skenes excelled in his outing against the Seattle Mariners, but the offense didn't come through in the 1-0 defeat at T-Mobile Park.

The Pirates’ 23-year-old pitching phenom was nearly untouchable after that, finishing with five shutout innings, with five hits allowed, no walks and 10 strikeouts. Kirby was even better.

It is also the 12th shutout defeat of the season for the Pirates, the most in the MLB. The Pirates will try and avoid the sweep against the Mariners in the series finale on July 6.

The Mariners came close to taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a single by Jorge Polanco, but Pirates center fielder Oneil Cruz made a 105.2 mph throw to nab Seattle’s J.P. Crawford at the plate.
