Cape Leeuwin is a good 350km from Albany. The best time to see humpback whales around Cape Leeuwin is from June to August. The best way to go whale watching is via boat - you get much closer and have a better chance of following a pod.

Hello matthew w , Yes the gates are locked at 5pm so best entry is before 4.30pm and the sunset will be later, around 6.30pm, however you can go to the water wheel which is located just outside the grounds and see the beautiful sunset there .
