WEBSep 13, 2021 · In its first harvest report of the season, USDA shows that 5% of the U.S. crop has already been harvested, thanks primarily, at this point, to Coastal and South Texas and Arizona. Boll set is now reported in virtually all fields across the Cotton Belt – 96% as of this week – and open bolls are reported in 36% of the U.S. crop.

In Tough Times, Cotton Acres Holding Steady for 2024
WEBJan 1, 2024 · That said — and based on the information in hand as of mid-December — U.S. cotton growers are projected to plant a total (upland and Pima) of 10.19 million acres in 2024. That’s a decrease of roughly 42,000 acres from USDA’s 2023 reported plantings last October, or approximately .5% down from 2023’s pre-harvest numbers.

We lost acres to the flood, and what we saved was detrimentally affected.

The market will come under pressure if speculators instigate short covering selloffs, but the low 90s should prevent any activity below 90-91 cents – at least through the expiration of the May contract and into early June for the July contract.
